foundation event space wedding – kansas city photographer

I wish every bride got ready at the gorgeous Ambassador Hotel where Grace put on her wedding dress. Then, the reception was held in an awesome, non-traditional venue in Kansas City’s West Bottoms known as The Foundation Event Space.

designing a modern wedding

Grace relied on her mom to help organize all of the amazing pink and gold details. The Ambassador suites have such amazing, huge windows that let in tons of natural light. We visited the hotel before the wedding to check out a room and they happily obliged us, as well as agreeing to rearrange and remove some extra furniture for the wedding day to make it easier for Grace and her bridal party to get ready. The decor is so clean and simple. And did I mention the light?!?! Amazing.

unique wedding details

Grace wore the veil her mother had worn on her wedding day. I just love special details like that. They are really what make your wedding special and unique to you! If you don’t have heirlooms of your own you can always start a new tradition….I’d start with Etsy. Grace didn’t need Etsy though, her mother-in-law to be gifted her a family heirloom as well, a gold bracelet that had been in the family for generations. There are so many sweet moments between Grace and her mom during the time she was getting ready. I really do think that is my favorite part of the day. A girl gets to step back and see herself in her full glory (wedding dress, makeup, hair, the whole bit) for the first time. It’s even more special when you get to share that moment with the most important women in your life.

get ready in beautiful light

The Ambassador Hotel is amazing from the rooms to the bar and even for the first look. Grace and Jamie wanted to see each other before the wedding so they could get all of their portraits out of the way and just party after the ceremony! We did a few bridal party portraits in the bar at the Ambassador complete with a champagne toast!

Next stop West Bottoms to stop by The Foundation Architectural Reclamation (their amazing, unique reception venue) for some more beautiful portraits. I love The Foundation, from the exposed brick to the twinkling white lights hanging from the wooden rafters and the old wooden floor, it’s all amazing. Then I can’t even describe their little secret bar in the back called “The Ship.” It’s absolutely to die for, you just have to see it yourself. It’s perfect for a cocktail hour to separate guests from the reception room (so we can get awesome photos of all your details!)

Grace & Jamie were married at Second Presbyterian Church in Kansas City and then we headed back to The Foundation for some cocktails, toasts, cake and dancing to their amazing band, Lost Wax, who absolutely killed it. Just call them and ask them to do Prince’s “Kiss.” You’re jaw will drop! Everyone was dancing away that evening, and then Lost Wax went into this song and everyone just sort of gravitated toward the band, still dancing , but turned to stare in amazement and appreciation for their awesome talent. It’s so much fun to have a great soundtrack to shoot to!
