Breckenridge Elopement Photographer
Snow was on the ground in patches at Hoosier Pass in the mountains just outside of Breckenridge on the day of their elopement. I scouted all morning for the perfect spots. Hiking up and down, checking out the angles and imagining the light in just the right angles. I’m so glad I did. The original route Becky and Michael would have taken us wouldn’t not have been nearly as beautiful. To get photos of gorgeous mountains… you don’t always want to go to the top of the mountain, not for the whole shoot anyway. You want to be in a good valley, with wide views and a winding path with the sun laying down at the end of the evening just beyond.
Becky’s sister, Michelle, was married in Kansas City a few years ago. She is such a lovely person that was referred to me through a running buddy. We hit it off right away. I was already going to be in Colorado and didn’t have to do much convincing for them to join me to shoot their engagement session at Brainard Lake just outside of Boulder, Colorado one windy day. When Becky decided to elope with Michael, she called me right away. I was ecstatic. This bride wanted adventure for her elopement. She wanted hiking and mountains and lots of nature. She wanted it to be just the three of us.
The bride and groom picked an AirBNB on the edge of a creek just down from the pass. It was a beautiful little cabin with a loft for Michael to get ready. I photographed Becky slipping on her dress and then I zipped her up and gave her an excited squeeze. There was a perfect little first look spot out behind the cabin by the stream. It was just the babbling brook and the two of them to say hello to each other on their wedding day. After an adorable few minutes together we headed up the mountain to the pass.
