The beautiful Colorado scenery offered an amazing backdrop to this non-traditional wedding at Spruce Mountain Ranch. I felt so lucky to be able to meet Ashley and Justin a couple of times before their wedding day considering how travel heavy all of our schedules were this summer. It was great to get to photograph them for their mini engagement session.Ashley can be super shy (she didn’t even want to stand up to talk at the rehearsal dinner!), so it was a great warm-up for the wedding. Ashley and Justin’s wedding was right in the middle of all of the flooding in Colorado, but despite the stress of the floods and the rain, it came together perfectly. Guests traveled from near and far and rearranged travel plans, in some cases going hundreds of miles out of the way to avoid flooding so they could watch these two be married.Like most of my brides, Ashley was really excited to get married in the beautiful outdoors. The landscape is so stunning at Spruce Mountain Ranch in Larkspur, situated just between Denver and Colorado Springs along the front range. As with so many of my Colorado weddings this year, it was a bit touch and go where the weather was concerned, but it ended up holding off through the ceremony and portraits. The rain came as we headed back to the reception hall for some tasty brunch including different kinds of pancakes, frittata and so many other mid-morning treats. The toasts were kicked off by the couple’s mutual good friend while guests gathered around the fireplace and wrapped up in shawls to keep the chill out. The day was a great celebration of the two of them, they played a point of tennis (yes the bride was still wearing her dress!) and lawn games with friends to round out their afternoon. There are so many beautiful details included in this wedding and Twigs & Posies did an absolutely fabulous job with the flowers. Although the weather was worrisome in the beginning, Ashley and Justin got the laid-back, morning wedding they’d hoped to have. Thanks so much to my amazing second photographer, Jonathan and lovely assistant, Savannah.
