I’m so excited to show off these portraits of Leanna & Tate and the newest addition to their family, Nash. I feel like I create such a connection with my wedding clients. I love that they feel more like family friends than they ever felt like clients. Leanna was referred to me by her friend for Leanna’s wedding last June. Then, while I was meeting with another wedding client this spring (a referral from Leanna) I found out that she was expecting and I was overjoyed! I knew how excited they were to start a family and I knew all about their awesome support system of friends and parents.
When I walked into their house, it was quiet, but in a very peaceful way. Leanna greeted me with a smile. She was so happy, she just glowed and even Tate, who wasn’t to excited about shooting the maternity session was so enraptured by the new little guy that he couldn’t help but be happy the whole afternoon. Everything wasn’t perfect, the baby was fussy and the diapers were leaky, but it didn’t matter, because Nash had arrived happy and healthy.
AND enormous kudos to Leanna’s mom for coming back at the end of the session from a grocery store run. She instantly put Nash to sleep and was an expert baby moulder for our “baby as art” portraits.

I photographed Steph and Dan’s engagement session back in 2009. Then, they hiked up a mountain and married themselves! I was so excited to get a call from Steph this spring about doing a mini portrait session in the studio with their newest family member Kayla! We broke out the santa hats for a little Christmas in July. (They’ll use the photos for their Christmas cards this year. It’s never too early! ;) Here are just a few with Kayla’s new snowflake collar and her pretty purple bow tie.
I was so excited when I found out that Leanna and Tate were expecting. I literally jumped up and down (and I’m usually not that kind of person)! I photographed their wedding last June up at Wild Horse Inn in Fraser. It was an absolutely amazing day, if you haven’t seen them images, check them out here. So, I was at a walkthrough for another couple’s wedding (referred by Leanna & Tate) and the new couple told me about the pregnancy. Of course, I had to immediately call Leanna to chat and see how she was doing.
She was really excited to do a maternity session. I had them down to McKay Lake for a mini session. (Although, I think we spent plenty of time catching up and went over our hour. Opps. :) It was fantastic to see them again and to share in their excitement.
Baby is due at the beginning of July and I can’t wait to photograph the whole family one more time when it arrives!
I’ve photographed little Luke, his mom and dad before. You can check out his 5 month old baby session here. Luke is quite possibly the most adorable baby ever, but then I say that every time. (But seriously, he’s cute!) We went out to the park by their house first thing in the morning, although the light still ended up being pretty strong. We took up residence underneath a great big tree. His mom brought his little rocking chair and put him in his Easter outfit (adorable). We let him hang out for awhile and then set him loose with the apples. After a bit, dad joined us and we headed to another shady area and then on into the house for a change of clothes and some family story time.
I love being able to kick back and enjoy the morning with such a special family. We just take a nice easy pace alongside the baby and when they are done, we’re done!
You can also check out the video from his session here.
August is such a bright and happy baby! She only fussed once during our entire Mother’s Day morning shoot at her home in Longmont. (Mom insisted on cleaning her face). She stopped just as soon as it was over. Amazing!
She shares her mother’s beautiful blue eyes, her great-grandmother’s name and hopefully, her father’s goofiness.
I photographed Amanda and Aaron’s wedding last year in Fraser. It was an absolutely gorgeous day with gorgeous scenery to match. Check out the wedding photos here and the engagement session here. I was so happy when they asked me to photograph the new baby once she arrived. We decided to wait just a few months so that we could show off her personality. We started off at a little open space close to the family’s neighborhood and used natural light. They spent some time snuggling little August and tickling her tummy. Then we headed back inside for some more natural light photos in the nursery.
I am absolutely in love with the color of the nursery and everything in it. The beautiful aqua just brought out the amazing color in her eyes. We took a little break so August could have a snack and then headed downstairs in a onesie for some tummy time.
I love her little hand on daddy’s neck.
Such beautiful blue eyes.
